MATTHEWS FARM HELD HERTIAGE DAY IN MAY

A good crowd came out to Matthews Farm Museum for the Hertiage Day in May. The main focus of the day was the horse plowing. Matthews "Down on the Farm Shop", was open for business. Other actitives included demonstrations by local crafters, as well as having their crafts for sale. Lunch was served by Jerry Moss, "Big Moe" of Independence. Many people took a tour of the farm which included our new spring house and the garden being cared for by the Master Gardeners of the Blue Ridge. A scare crow was made for the garden by Matthews Farm members and visitors. David Hauslohner, our MLHFM president, was planting and teaching Sam Welch 12, and Jack Welch 10, of Mt. Airy, NC how to plant potatoes. Sam and Jack later taught Jansen Talyor 2 and Justin Taylor 6, of Galax how to plant potates.

The weather forecast included rain, but the rain held off til late afternoon and a great day was enjoyed by all at Matthews Farm Museum.
